The GPSMap 76Cx features the powerful SiRF GPS navigation chip for supreme accuracy in all conditions. | You can use the 76Cx's memory card slot with preprogrammed microSD cards from Garmin (sold separately) that provide topographic maps, city streets, and nautical charts. In fact, the unit is compatible with most Garmin MapSource products, including BlueChart, City Navigator, U.S. Topo 24K, and U.S. Topo and Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots. The unit comes preloaded with an Americas autoroute basemap that provides automatic routing capabilities including highways, exits, and tide data. There's also a preloaded marine point database. You can even get turn-by-turn directions when you're driving, and an integrated trip computer provides odometer, stopped time, moving average, overall average, total time, max speed, and more. This unit was an upgrade from my old Garmin 72. Bought at a great price from Amazon. It picks up signals much better than the 72, even indoors. Purchased this unit for the mapping capability and I was well aware the sd chips need to be purchased seperatly. I have used the unit with the 2009 Lakemaster chip for Wisconsin lakes and have been very pleased. I fish a flowage with alot of dangers that lie beneath. This would be a must for someone never on that body of water. Much cheaper than a new outboard lower unit.

An okay and good to handle device for navigating while sailing. Not much to critizize, then. Only the cource projection in the map screen is gone for some reason (the 76 Map had it.)

Unless you're a big fan of being put on hold for hours at a time I would look for a different GPS from another company. Garmin doesn't care the slightest for their customers once they have their money. Garmin's user manuals, on-line help and phone support are infuriating.

I've been running the 76cx on my Seadoo for about a month now. Seadoo makes a glove box cover that allows you to snap a 76 series right in, so it's always in front of me. I'm very happy with the screen, no matter how or where I'm riding I can always read it without much of an issue. The fact that the unit floats has already saved me from losing it on a couple of occasions. The software is very good, and easy to use. I can plug the unit in after a day of riding and import my tracks from where i've been.
I have 2 small issues with the unit. First is that the maps that come with it aren't accurate at all. Most of where I ride is considered to be land by the maps. I'm hoping to get the bluechart maps soon, but they cost as much as the unit did, so I'm hesitant to pull the trigger before trying a unit that includes them.
My second issue is that you can't pull tide info into the information page. I ride in a lot of tidal areas, and it would be helpful to see when high/low tide are so I can know to enter/avoid some places. It's not terribly hard to get tidal information from the main menu, but It would save me some time to have it right on the information page.
Overall the 76cx is a spectacular unit, and I would reccomend it for anyone who has a PWC. It's rugged, compact, and easy to use.
