good enoughtNov 17, 2009 I'm using this product in a ranger, is too much power, but the quality or performance is just OK.
Pretty good little subNov 11, 2009 Maybe I was expecting too much from the amazing reviews, but I was a little disappointed at first turn-on after setting it up.
That being said, it's been three days, and I am growing to appreciate it. It does provide solid low end without boominess. It only farts a little bit when overdriven (will not happen at normal or slighly above normal loudness). I can hear bass lines that were out of the range of my old speakers. I am still dialing in the settings, and can say that I am, overall, happy with my purchase. I will probably leave it at max level on the deck, 6dB out of 12dB mx gain at deck, half gain at the dial. I drive a 2009 Impreza hatch.
It is a great bang for the buck purchase, and I even paid a 60% premium getting it shipped to Canada. Beleive all of the positive reviews, the negative reviews are out to lunch. There is no way that they are reviewing the same unit as me or any of the other reviews, they would not come up with such criticisms.
The missing star is to reflect my initial, and very temporary (now gone), disappointment at the moment of plug in only, after reading such amazing reviews.
Perfect bass complimentNov 10, 2009 This unit does exactly what it says it'll do. It provides very selectable, clean, punchy bass to compliment almost any music you listen to. It's simple to install, rugged and fits anywhere. PRICE can't be beat either. I'm an Audio Engineer, Trumpet player, who among other things, handles sound for Big Bands.
IF you're a rapper you may want more power. If you listen to music; look no further.
STAY AWAYOct 23, 2009 After reading all the great reviews I thought this would be a perfect fit for my 2009 F-150 super cab. It fit perfect under the back seat. That was the only good thing I can say. The first unit I got worked for about 2 minutes then went into protect mode and shut down. After about an hour I tried it again and the green light came on but NO SOUND. I should mention that the installation was done by a friend of mine who installs audio equipment in car for a living. We checked everything and still no sound, so back to Amazon it went. I figured ok, every once in a while someone is going to get a bad unit. I notified Amazon and had a new one in 2 days( great service). So now I'm on my second one. We connected everything and it worked great. I was very happy with this unit and it did what I wanted it to. Three days later it totally quit. No protection light, no green light, no power, nothing. I had my friend check all the connections with a volt meter and everything showed 12 volts. So guess what? This one is going back and I won't be getting anything from Boss Audio again !!!!
Satisfied, but not thrilledOct 21, 2009 I purchased my BOSS BASS600 here on Amazon, and installed it under the drivers seat of my 2002 Subaru WRX. I wanted something to round out the lows--much was lacking with my Alpine headunit playing through the factory speakers. I also wanted something compact--i.e. to fit under the seat. This BOSS subwoofer satisfies on both counts. It fits well under my seat (room to spare), and provides the lows I was looking for.
Installation was easy--I used the supplied velcro-style tape. If I did it again, I might install it under the passenger seat instead of the driver's, as the vibrations can definitely be felt you-know-where.
Where I think this unit is lacking is in power. Obviously the advertised power is way overstated. I feel that more, clean power would help the unit with jazz and rock type basslines. I think the unit does fine with kickdrums. For what I paid, though, and for the size of the unit, I really can't be critical. This is a great value in the compact sub market.
